Don’t wait until it’s too late-

Time has a way of getting the best of me and lately that seems the case more often than not.  What started out as a pleasant, organized but busy summer has turned into quite a mess in a hurry.  Two weeks ago during the session of a Senior we received a tough phone call that a close relative had fallen and was being transferred because of a Cerebral Bleed in his brain.  Struggling through the session, I knew that for an 88 year old man this was not going to have a good outcome.  After many visits, a few moves and a lot of tough decisions- his wife of 64 years lost her best friend and our Greatest Uncle on Wednesday July 14th.  The winds are what woke us up that morning at 6:35- the sky was green and there was terror in the air.  As we watched trees snapped off like toothpicks we headed to the basement.  Fifteen minutes later we received the call that Mel had passed away.  I believe he was letting us know he was leaving- perhaps he wasn’t too happy about it.  I know we weren’t.  You see no matter how long you have someone you are never quite ready to say good bye.  And while we know he’s in a better place- our place is a little less perfect because he is no longer here.

As we were grieving our loss, I pulled out old picture albums and began remembering.  Things I never saw before, people I didn’t know and lives I’d never been a part of unfolded in those pages.  We laughed and we cried but together we treasured those moments.  So while this is my business and my life I beg of you…take pictures!!! Write on them or journal to remember who they were and where they were taken.  Capture those moments- get those wall portraits to treasure in your times of joy but also in times of loss.  If you don’t come to me…go SOMEWHERE- don’t let the years go by until it’s too late.

We didn’t look at the wildlife prints purchased or the other belongings- we remembered with the portraits taken of a man we all loved.  They’re all we have left of him.

RIP MEL- we love you!
