Friends are friends forever if the Lords a Lord of them…

Love that song since I was in high school and heard it at a TEC retreat.  Every now and then I encounter a friend who reminds me of this song. This mom and I worked together at the hospital and we shared our first cup of coffee when her youngest was just a newborn and my youngest was 3 months away.  Little did I know at that time the twists and turns our lives would take.  Our daughters became best of friends over our rare but wonderful coffee gatherings of 4 moms and all our kids.  Today our girls are like sisters and we are each a second mother to the others daughter.  We have each others backs even though it’s never been spoken.  As I was struggling miserably with my back she agreed to paint for me in exchange for a family portrait- my idea as I HATE painting and my back couldn’t take it.  She has spoken about a family portrait and this was a win win for both of us.  While she was gone out of town we gathered up her little chicks with the help of another friend (the kids aunts) to be certain all cooperated with our scheme.  These kids (not all really kids any more but…) came together in a love for their mother that I wish she could have seen.  They all put their lives on hold and made arrangements, pictures are never without stress.  What do we wear?  My make up look bad?  Oh my hair doesn’t ever cooperate?  Along with the stress of just getting somewhere on time amongst jobs and sports and schedules.  As I was taking these pictures the true smiles came out as I told these kids how much they must love their mom to do this for her.  Those are the ones where you see the love in their eyes as their mother is truly an amazing woman!  It’s such a blessing to do a job where I know my work will be displayed in a home for generations to come.  Where eyes will gather around and a mother will proudly stand in her home and treasure that age, that moment, that love!

And so the song goes…

And a friend will not say “Never”
‘Cause the welcome will not end
Though it’s hard to let you go
In the Father’s hands we know
That a lifetime’s not too long
To live as friends

Thanks my friend!!!
